Geeks and Sports: Why Do Most Geeks Hate Them?

Something that always bugged me or just struck a chord with me, is the fact that sports seem to be hated among most geeks. It's such a consistent observation that even when a fellow geek is into sports, they are accused of not being a "true geek". I have seen certain celebrities who classify themselves as geeks (I won't name names) say how sports are not popular in their crowd.

Yes, there are a few of us that do like sports who happen to call themselves a geek and I don't see the problem. Is there some kind of hidden initiation for these particular types of geeks to feel as if their reputation would be shattered if another found out that they kept up with their city's hockey team? Is there a rule that says one must not watch baseball if they also happen to like Batman? (Well okay that last one I'll give you because baseball is not the most entertaining sport in the world) I know none of these things exist but still, I just feel as if it's 'wrong' to like nerdy stuff and sports at the same time. And just so it's known, a lot of jocks do read comic books. They can't deny it!!!! >.<
