Bring Back Firefly!

There is a new petition that will soon be floating around the web once more that may or may not have been created by this blogger right here! For those who have watched the Western Sci-Fi gem Firefly, then they know the anguish that is present within us stemmed by the fact it hasn't been on the air in over ten years. Despite that, it has a loyal and strong fan base that only seemed to grow after it was taken off FOX's network. I should know because I am one of those many people who didn't even come across the show till long after it was off the air.

Time Lapse Video Of The Northern Lights

Are you one of those lucky people that have had the opportunity to see the infamous Northern Lights? I know I'm not. :-( Maybe one of these years before I die I'll be able to check see it live. Until then, I will just have to watch videos such as this:

Geeks and Sports: Why Do Most Geeks Hate Them?

Something that always bugged me or just struck a chord with me, is the fact that sports seem to be hated among most geeks. It's such a consistent observation that even when a fellow geek is into sports, they are accused of not being a "true geek". I have seen certain celebrities who classify themselves as geeks (I won't name names) say how sports are not popular in their crowd.

The Return To Amy's Baking Company...

Or shall we say "Return to Planet Amy"? I think the last one fits much more. I mean after all anyone who has seen the highest rated Kitchen Nightmares episode that portrayed the Amy/Sammy duo, knows that those two can NOT be from Earth.

When it comes to music, odds are genre preference will vary among geeks/nerds. For other societal cliques, their genre is usually consistent across the board (i.e., jazz and/or classical is listened to by higher class types, pop listeners usually include the younger generation; especially high school girls, hip-hop is favored by jocks, etc.). But for geeks we can listen to anything that fancies our ear. Although, we are probably the only ones that find the "aw"someness of video game music or songs based off movies favored by our community. I mean after all, who else would be able to understand the meaning behind those types of lyrics?

A Writer's Cop Out?

I am watching the Family Guy episode right now where Peter wins the golf game with OJ Simpson and realized how lazy the writer's can be on the show. The part I'm referring to is when they cut to Conway Twitty. They do this multiple times throughout the series and not once did I find it funny or useful. There was no point to it and it goes on for way too long to begin with let alone sometimes it seems even longer. I really do think it's an act of laziness on the writer's part. It's like they thought "Damn I have a brain fart at this moment in the episode let's just cut to some country music poster child. Maybe I'm being critical and yes, I know Family Guy is famous for showing random cultural content in episodes but this one just drives me crazy for some reason. Am I the only one who thinks this way? Am I over analyzing it too much? Please someone let me know!

15 powerful insights from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five

Image

There aren’t many writers who witnessed a 20th century apocalypse at first hand. But of those who have Kurt Vonnegut’s response, Slaughterhouse-Five, is arguably the most memorable. It was published in 1969, twenty-four years after Vonnegut, a 23 year-old American prisoner of war, survived the Allied firebombing of Dresden. This massive air attack, which killed 130,000 people and destroyed a city of no military significance was probably the most important thing, besides getting married and having children, which ever happened to him.

Blow Your Mind With These Amazing Places Everyone Should Visit!

27 of the most surreal places on Earth that everyone should have the opportunity to visit. Of course I probably won't be one of them, haha. Darn cost of living and travel! But still nice to look at and think about!

The Downfalls to Daylight Savings Time

Image

Daylight Saving Time is the greatest continuing fraud ever perpetuated on American people. And this weekend, the effects of this cruel monster will rear its ugly head again. On Sunday morning, Americans across the country will have to set their clocks back one hour, and next week, the sun will begin its ambling lurch to eventually setting at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Random Fact of the Day: Denmark has what????!!!!!

Image

Are you into random facts as much as I am?? If so, you're part of the cool people! ;-) Check out today's random fact of the day in reference to television!

The DR Ramasjang launched in 2009 and was a desperate attempt to reign in Danish viewers. Danish children were all but lost in the wonders of Cartoon Network and Disney. The DR caters to Danish humor and irony and is made for children between the ages of 3 through 10. It has become the most popular channel in Denmark among children.

The channel doesn’t show any commercials, which boosts their ratings among children and parents alike whose don’t have to deal with marking strategies geared for their young ones. The DR Channel’s characters are put to bed at night and are seen sleeping all night. It sounds like an adorable channel, except their use of “irony” would be considered very questionable in the U.S.

One movie on the channel shows a ten year old girl killing six adults by cutting of their limbs! A spokeswoman for the channel said that times are changing and kids want more than Barbie and Power Rangers. Those shows are now for kids under 5. The TV station has a hard time balancing shows for 3 year olds and 10 year olds. Ideally they want to open another channel and split the age group in half again.

The Disturbing War on Wolves

Image

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to extend Endangered Species Act protections for an estimated 75 Mexican wolves in the wild in New Mexico and Arizona. (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service /January 25, 1998)

By Julie CartOctober 26, 2013, 6:30 p.m.

ALBUQUERQUE — In the small, rural community of Reserve, children waiting for the school bus gather inside wooden and mesh cages provided as protection from wolves. Parents consider the "kid cages" a reasonable precaution.

Defenders of the wolves note there have been no documented wolf attacks in New Mexico or Arizona. Fears of wolves attacking humans, they say, are overblown, and the cages nothing more than a stunt.
